Abstract

1,247,229. Data stores. INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS Ltd. 5 May, 1970 [18 April, 1969], No. 19808/69. Heading G4C. A dynamic data recording apparatus such as a magnetic or punched tape device has two recording heads 4 and 7, one of which is selectively connected via switch 3 to the data input 1 and the other is connected to a store 13 which is also connected via a second contact of switch 3 to the data input. The arrangement is such that the data input is connected to the store 13 for subsequent recording while the tape is changed, the distance between the heads 4 and 7 being such that the stored data and the input data may be simultaneously recorded without overlap after completion of the exchange. The Specification states that the store 13 may be a counter, shift register or a magnetic core store and has a capacity equal to the maximum amount of input data which occurs during the period required to change the tape. Timing signals are provided on line 14, for clocking the store 13. The tape may be advanced continuously or incrementally via line 10 on receipt of each input data bit. The switch 3 may be actuated automatically when the tape is full.
