Abstract
1,251,816. Rotary positive-displacement pumps and motors. SPERRY RAND CORP. Nov.6, 1968 [Nov.14, 1967], No.52468/68. Heading F1F. In an hydraulic pump, or motor, of the outwardly sliding radial vane type and similar to that disclosed in Specification 880, 287, each vane 68 in the rotor 42 is furnished with a recess, or cavity, 84 on the trailing side thereof (in the case of a pump), this cavity being charged with working fluid from an outlet chamber (34), Fig.1 (not shown), through passages 95 in a pressure and spring-loaded axially movable plate 38, a circular groove 96 in said plate, a channel or passage 102 in the rotor, and a chamber 86 in the vane so that a film of working fluid is established between the vane and the adjacent side 71 of the slot 70, wherein the vane is lodged, to balance lateral pressure on the vane and obviate metal-tometal contact. The direction of rotation of the rotor is reversed in the case of a motor. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 880, 287.
