Abstract

1,252,251. Direction finding. CONTROL DATA CORP. 15 Nov., 1966 [15 Nov., 1965], No. 51249/66. Heading H4D. In an acoustical direction finding device formed of transducers 10, 12, forming a planar array, the spread of the pressure distribution curve 14, 16 is dependent on the angle of incidence of the received beam. Scarring the array along the path 18, at a fixed frequency, produces a signal, the frequency of which is a function of the angle of incidence. Movement of the incident beam relative to the array produces side bands. The elements of array 30, are separately coupled to the samplers 36, 361 driven by the clock 37. The swept analysers 46, 461 display spectra corresponding to positive or negative azimuth angles alone and eliminates ambiguity due to the sideband components. In an alternative form, 361 may be coupled to a bank of fixed filters each of which passes a frequency which corresponds to a specific beam angle.
