Abstract
1,252,332. Television; multiplex radio signalling. RCA CORPORATION. 20 June 1969 [26 June, 1968], No. 31336/69. Headings H4F and H4L. In the television system for transmitting and receiving message images in addition to television images as described in Specification 1,132,303, supervisory test signals which may be present in the last three horizontal line spaces of each vertical blanking interval are deleted from the composite signal and replaced by the message line signals which would otherwise have been transmitted in the first three horizontal line spaces after the equalizing pulses in each vertical blanking interval. The supervisory test signals may be deleted from the transmitted signal since they are for network and studio use only, and whereas signals occupying the first three horizontal line spaces after the equalizing pulses in each vertical blanking interval cause undesirable brightness modulation on the vertical retrace lines of receivers incorporating inadequate retrace blanking, signal occupying the last three horizontal line spaces of each vertical blanking interval may be transmitted without undesirably interfering with the reception and reproduction of the television pictures. In the embodiment described above the necessary delay imported to the message line signals is equivalent to eight horizontal line spaces. By varying this delay the message line signals may be relocated anywhere in the vertical blanking interval or in the television raster itself, the shifting being in a coherent or random manner e.g. for secret or subscription-type transmission.
