Abstract

1,259,090. Hydrostatic braking. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 24 March, 1970 [29 March, 1969], No. 14218/70. Heading F2E. [Also in Division F1] A device for braking a rotatable shaft 12 of an automotive vehicle comprises a housing 1, 2 filled with pressure medium and containing a swash plate 7, 8, 9 of which the inner member 9 is co-rotatable with the shaft 12 and the outer member 7 is non-rotatably mounted on a bearing 8, the housing 1, 2 also containing a cylinder block 3 with cylinders 4 containing working pistons 5 urged against the member 7 by springs 6, the cylinders 4 having relief pressure valves comprising outlet openings 28 operable by a valve disc 29, and said openings 28 being thereby connectable with a chamber 42 enclosed by the housing 1, 2 and connected to a heat exchanger by bores 39, 40: upon brake actuation the angle of the swash plate 7, 8, 9 relative to the shaft 12 is varied by means of a piston 21 (connected by a channel 22 and screw plug 23 to the hydraulic brake line of the vehicle) and a ring 16, cam 17 and the member 7 have the pistons 5 to pump pressure fluid through the pressure relief valves, the rotational energy of the shaft 12 thereby being converted to heat energy which is dissipated in the heat exchanger. The pressure fluid passes into cylinders 4 via openings 27 provided with spring biased valve rings 30. The ring 16 may alternatively be displaced by a ring cylinder or a single cylinder; and the ring 16 may also be moved by a coaxially arranged screw socket with coarse thread of a mechanical rod system. The working cylinders 4 may be connected via an outlet check valve to a common line whose pressure is controlled by a single relief pressure valve.
