Abstract

1,267,951. Magneto-resistor switching circuits. GEHAP GES FUR HANDEL UND PATENTVERWERTUNG MbH & CO. K.G. 12 March, 1969 [18 March, 1968; 18 Sept., 1968; 31 Oct., 1968], No. 12933/69. Heading H3T. [Also in Division H1] A switching circuit comprises a magnetoresistor 3 located in the field of a control coil 2 and connected across the input of an emitter follower 5 feeding a common emitter stage 6, the magneto-resistor being connected to the collector supply via a resistor 4, which may be variable. The coil may be provided with a core and premagnetized such that either an increase or a decrease in control coil current operates the switching circuit. Separate transistors may be controlled by the emitter and collector circuits of transistor 5 so that the collector circuits operate as a changeover switch. The same facility may be provided alternatively by providing separate magneto-resistors above and below the magnetic core, each feeding its own amplifier (Fig. 9, not shown). Multiple switching may be provided by a plurality of magnetoresistors located between respective teeth on the poles of the core or located in the magnetic circuit of a plurality of magnets (Figs. 5-8, not shown). Fig. 10 shows a bi-stable-state circuit triggerable at 28, the stability being obtained by feedback to the coil. If the coil is tuned by a capacitor or varicap diode, the circuit will oscillate (Fig. 11, not shown). Fig. 6 shows the circuit arranged as a contactless relay assembly comprising a printed circuit board carrying the transistors and resistors and having a printed external connection strip 24. The ends of the core are slotted laterally of the Figure to accommodate a plurality of magnetoresistors (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown). Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates an alternative construction having a single magneto-resistor and having plug-in connectors mounted in a printed circuit base-board. The arrangement may plug in to a conventional relay socket.
