Abstract
1,268,869. Caprolactam. TEIJIN Ltd. 28 Aug., 1969 [4 Sept., 1968; 30 Sept., 1968], No. 42902/69. Heading C2C. #-Caprolactam is prepared by continuously introducing steam, preferably superheated, into #-aminocaproic acid, #-aminocaproamide, or a mixture of the two, heated to 150-400‹ C., continuously removing caprolactam by distillation with the steam and isolating the caprolactam from the resulting distillate. Pressures of 0.5 to 5 atmos. may be used. A non-volatile substance which is acidic under the reaction conditions may be present as catalyst, such as phosphoric acids and salts thereof which are either acidic or decompose to give acidic salts, sulphuric and sulphonic acids and salts thereof, Si-Al gel, zeolites, titanic acid, and boron compounds.
