Abstract
1286722 Sterilising apparatus M FROLICH 21 April 1970 [28 April 1969] 19098/70 Heading A2D A method of sterilising apparatus used for the heat treatment of liquid products comprising at least one closed vessel, heat exchanger and connecting pipes with valves, comprises displacing air from the apparatus by steam conducted into the vessel, a major part of the pipes being filled with hot water, and circulating the water whilst supplying steam, the water being sprayed into the vessel arid thereby heated by the steam fed into the vessel so as to reach the sterilisation temperature. The supply of steam is regulated to permit sterilisation of the apparatus, the supply after a sterilising time being terminated, the recirculating water being cooled by use of the heat exchanger, and pressurised sterile air being then supplied to the apparatus to maintain an excess pressure until the temperature of operation of the heat treatment apparatus is reached. The water is then discharged from the apparatus. A suitable apparatus is shown in the figure. This apparatus is sterilised by opening the valve 18 and passing steam into the closed vessels 1 and 2 thus displacing air which is discharged through outlet pipe 16. During this step only the valves 21 and 5a are closed and three-way valve 25 is positioned to connect pipe 13 to heat exchanger 7. After displacement of air, valve 28 is closed, valve 27 is opened and the connecting pipes filled with hot water which water is further circulated by pump 14. During this step, hot water is sprayed from nozzles 11 and 12 into the closed vessels. The temperature of the circulating water is registered at 29. Sterile air may be admitted to the closed vessels when the sterilisation is complete, by opening valve 21.
