Abstract

1288480 Calcium carbide KNAPSACK AG 9 July 1970 [12 July 1969] 33389/70 Heading C1A Calcium carbide of low gas yield is manufactured by-introduction of calcium oxide, having a particle size between 1 and 8 mm., into a melt of calcium carbide of higher gas yield. The calcium carbide of higher gas yield is defined as giving off between 280 and 300 litres acetylene per kg. carbide. Calcium oxide may be added at a rate consistent with the reduction of the acetylene yield contemplated for the feed carbide. Calcium oxide may be used in admixture with fluorspar or aluminium oxide of similar particle size.
