Abstract
1289600 Radar SIEMENS-ALBIS AG 16 Nov 1970 [24 Nov 1969] 54359/70 Heading H4D [Also in Division G4] A distance measuring system has two transceivers, each capable of operating as a main station or a subsidiary station, mounted at opposite ends of a distance to be measured each transmitting a different frequency measuring signal, each producing a difference signal from the transmitted and received signals, the difference signal at the subsidiary station being transmitted back to the main station wherein by phase measurements involving both difference signals a partial range measurement is produced and on production thereof the measuring signal is switched off and each station has means to detect said switching off to change the measuring frequencies and produce a further partial result, an overall result being produced from said partial results. In the main station oscillator 11 produces a signal of frequency f01 which modulates a carrier wave which is transmitted via TR device 15. Signals from the subsidiary station are received and passed through device 15 and mixed with a portion of the transmitted signal. The received signal contains modulation components due to the subsiding station measuring signal S02 and difference signal S2. Detectors 18, 19 select the signals f01-f02 and S2r and the phase difference therebetween is measured in meter 20 by a pulse counting technique involving the setting and resetting of a bi-stable. The resetting thereof closes switch 12. Markers 21, 22 detect the cessation of the signals S1 and S2r and logic 24 acts to step on a motor driven rotary switch to provide a new measuring frequency. In the subsidiary station oscillator 31 produces the measuring signal of frequency f02, below f01 which modulates the transmitted carrier. The difference signal produced by mixing the transmitted and received measuring signals are selected by detector 38 and marker 41 indicates the presence thereof opening gate 47. The difference signal is used to control the oscillator 31 frequency to produce the correct difference frequency and when this is achieved a signal passes through gate 47 to open switch 32 which allows the subsidiary station difference signal also to modulate the transmitted carrier. Detector 39 selects this reported back signal from the mixer 36 output and marker 42 indicate its presence. As in the main station the cessation of the main station measuring signal f01 is detected and used to switch to the next measuring frequency which is this time above the main station emasuring frequency The partial range results thus obtained are combined in a known way to produce an unambiguous range measurement.
