1292010 The antibiotic #-rhodomycin V FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 19 April 1971 [18 March 1970] 26602/71 Heading C2A The new antibiotic #-rhodomycin V having the Formula I wherein R is a tetraglycoside radical consisting of 1 mol. 2-desoxy-fucose, 1 mol. rhodosamine and 2 mols. rhodinose, is prepared by aerobically cultivating a #-rhodomycin V-producing strain of Streptomyces purpurascens (e.g CBS. 296.71) and isolating the #-rhodomycin V from the fermented culture by extracting with at least one solvent at a pH of 6À5 to 7À5. The antibiotic is a red crystalline solid melting with decomposition at 173-175 C., soluble in methanol, butanol, acetone, chloroform and aqueous acids, sparingly soluble in water and benzene and insoluble in cyclohexane, and having an optical rotation [α]
