Abstract
1292801 Linear motor reaction rail assembly; tracked hovercars TRACKED HOVERCRAFT Ltd 17 Oct 1969 [17 July 1968] 34096/68 Headings B7L and B7K [Also in Division H2] A linear motor reaction rail assembly 10 comprises an inverted T-section rail 11 having flanges 13 which are bolted by means of lugs 15 to a series of longitudinally spaced carrying members 14, said members 14 being each supported by a base member 18, and there being interposed between said members 14 and 18 elastomeric pads 17 which are bonded to members 14 and metal blocks 19 seated in recesses of the members 18, the said pads 17 being held under compression by stirrups 20 having a knife-edge 26 which engages in a recess 27 of member 18, and a recess 24 engaged by a knife-edge 25 of member 14, the pads 17 accommodating lateral movement of the rail caused by operation of the motor. The axes of the pads 17 are inclined vertically inwardly so that the rail 11 is biased to its upright position. In a modification, Fig. 6, the stirrups are replaced by members 32 which have bonded to their inner surfaces pads 30, 31 between which are bonded the flanges of members 14. The rail assembly is mounted on a concrete track 2 which supports a hovercar 1. The hovercar is provided with fans 7 and 8 which supply pressurized air to hoverpads 5 and 6, respectively.
