Abstract

1294929 Treating ore DER DILLINGER HUTTENWERKE AG 29 Jan 1970 [30 Jan 1969] 4225/70 Heading C1A In treating an ore, for example by pelleting or sintering, the charge of ore is moistened by adding thereto the dust in water dispersion obtained by the spray precipitation treatment of waste gases from oxygen blowing or blast treatment in the steel industry. Dirty water fromsuch spray precipitation treatment is fed by pipe 1 into a cyclone 2 in which the heavier dust particles separate out and are fed via pipe 5 to a tank 6 in which settlement occurs, the deposit being removed by chain conveyer 7. The lighter dust dispersed in water is fed into thickener 4 by pipe 3. The resulting mud is pumped by pumps 12 and 13 through pipes 10, 11 and 14 finally into mixing drum 15 where it is mixed with the ore to be pelleted or agglomerated. The pumping speed of pumps 12 and 13 may be varied to cope with the varying moisture requirements of the ore. The system may be fitted with water supply, e.g. via pipes 17, 23, 22, by means of which the system may be flushed or kept operating if a blockage occurs in the mud flow line. The water line 17 is fitted with pump 16 and connections 18, 19 and 20 which ensure that blockages both before and after the pumps may be coped with. A recycle line 21 is fitted adjacent the end of mud line 14 which when valve 25 is closed serves to return any water used for flushing back to tank 6. The water requirements of drum 15 are satisfied by line 22 during such flushing operations. Blockages of the mud line may be minimized during stoppages of the mixing drum or sinter plant, by utilizing line 21 to return all the mud from line 14 back to the tank 6. Valves are positioned as required by the operational demands of the system and additional water supply points are provided.
