Abstract

1297563 Image pick-up tubes LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS GmbH 13 Feb 1970 [15 Feb 1969] 7009/70 Heading H1D An image pick-up tube comprises means for converting an image into an electron image which is accelerated to a charge storage screen in the form of a semi-conductor provided with an array of diodes which is scanned by a lowvelocity beam. In Fig. 2 electrons from a photocathode 3 pass to a channel multiplier 12, the output of which is accelerated to the N-type silicon substrate of a target 6 provided on its opposite surface with P-type regions. The side of the target facing the multiplier may be provided with a protective layer of aluminium or gold, or with an n+ layer at least 1 micron thick. If the incident radiation is X-rays or ultra-violet light, the photo-cathode 3 may be omitted as the radiation will excite the channel multiplier 12. An accelerating anode may be provided between the photo-cathode and the channel multiplifier, or between the cathode and the target if the multiplier is omitted ; in the latter case the photo-cathode may be provided on the internal surface of a fibre-optics plate forming part of the envelope, Fig. 1 (not shown).
