1301095 Moulding gramophone records EMI Ltd 13 March 1970 [26 March 1969 27 Dec 1969] 15700/69 and 62991/69 Heading B5A A machine for the injection moulding of gramophone records comprises a fixed mould part 1 and’an axially movable mould part 2, the mouldable material being fed to the mould cavity between the parts by an injection nozzle 40 having a tip 44 extending into the mould cavity. The front end of a rod 28 extends from the mould part 2 and includes a pin 30, and after an appropriate quantity of moulding material has been injected and during a final moulding step in which the mould parts are brought closer together the nozzle tip and rod end are brought together intermediate the surfaces of a record to form its centre hole. The pin 30 slidably engages the nozzle tip which retains a record label 14. A stamper disc 3 is clamped to a bolster plate 4 by a clamping member 36 through which the nozzle extends in an axially adjustable manner whereby on completion of the moulding operation the nozzle is retracted slightly to allow the introduction of air between the record and stamper 3 via passages 15-18. The air may be under pressure to assist record separation from the mould part 1. A stamper 3 is clamped to a bolster plate 4 of the mould part 2 by a member 5 having an opening 9 closed by a poppet valve 10 urged forwardly by spring washers 12 and whose forward movement is limited by a nut 11. The member 5 is threaded to a member 27 urged rearwardly by means not shown. The rod 28 locates a record label 14 held by suction via passages 15-18. The valve 10 is closed by injection pressure.
