Abstract
1304896 Valves CESSNA AIRCRAFT CO 13 Feb 1970 [17 Feb 1969] 6945/70 Heading F2V A fluid relief valve comprises a body 53 having an inlet 65, outlet 59 and a communicating passage 70 therebetween; a valve member 71 movably positioned in the passage; a valve seat 66 having an annular terminal edge engaging the valve member 71 defining inlet and outlet areas of the member respectively exposed to inlet and outlet fluid pressures; resilient biasing means 73 acting on the valve member 71; the valve member 71 having a surface configuration which co-operates with the valve seat 66 whereby the valve member opens in response to a predetermined inlet pressure and the inlet area enlarges in proportion to the increasing closing force exerted by the means 73 as the member 71 moves away from the seat 66. Above the predetermined pressure in chamber 57, fluid moves the valve member 71 to the right (Fig. 6, not shown) causing the inlet fluid to act over a larger area of valve member. If the pressure in chamber 57 should fall below a predetermined value, pressure of fluid from the outlet chamber 56 moves the member 66 to the left to allow a reverse flow of fluid. Chamber 57 is in communication with a chamber 63 via a slot 64. In another embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown), fluid from a high pressure chamber (13) acts on a valve member (25) and on a seat (26) so that above a predetermined inlet pressure the seat and valve member initially move together. When the flange (40) of the seat contacts the body, the valve member continues to open so that the area exposed to the inlet fluid increases in proportion to the closing force of the spring (24). The low pressure chamber (14) is in communication with a chamber (32) via apertures 37.
