Abstract
1305042 Fuel injection pumps MITSUBISHI JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 2 March 1970 [28 Feb 1969(2)] 9955/70 Heading F1A In a fuel-injection pump capable of one or two stage injection, the start of the second part of injection during two stage injection is determined by the dimensions of a spill passage 23 in the plunger which communicates between the injection stages with the fuel inlet bore 22 in the plunger barrel. For two stage injection a raised portion 11a of the plunger head, above the outlet part 23a of passage 23, is aligned with the fuel inlet part 22. A first lobe on a radial cam lifts the plunger to a position l 3 , injection occuring between positions l 1 and l 3 when the inlet is blocked. At l 3 the spill passage 23 registers with the fuel inlet and injection stops, and a dwell on the cam allows the plunger to retract. A second lobe lifts the plunger and injection occurs at l 4 when the passage and inlet bore move out of register. The plunger may be rotated so that the inlet is blocked by a portion 11b on the plunger thus allowing single stage injection. The plunger head may be oblique.
