Abstract
1305478 Dental implant PLESSEY CO Ltd 10 Nov 1971 [25 Nov 1970] 55976/70 Heading A5R An artificial tooth comprises a crown section 9; a root section for insertion into an alveolus in the jaw formed by a member having at least one cone shaped projection and which is formed at least in the part for engagement with the alveolus from a biocompatible material, the root section having means for securing it within the alveolus and means for securing the root to the crown. Grooves 13 or transverse holes (20), Fig. 7 (not shown) permit ingrowth of bore tissue into the root section, and thus hold it securely in place. The root section may be of glassy, vitreous or pyrolytic carbon, or a coat may be formed of a ceramic core with a coating of pyrolytic carbon. Axially aligned cavities 7 and 10 in the root and crown respectively, house a pin 8 which secures the two sections. More than one cone shaped projection may constitute the root section, depending on the tooth removed from the alveolus, and thus also the shape of the alveolus, Fig. 6 (not shown).
