Abstract

1307275 Automatic level control SOC ANON DES ATELIERS HOUGET DUESBERG BOSSON 25 Aug 1970 [25 Aug 1969] 40825/70 Heading G3R [Also in Division D1] A system for controlling the level of textile fibre in a chute supplying a hopper, comprises an electro-acoustic detector affected by the height of fibre in the chute so as to control an inclined elevator supplying the chute, there being an adjustable time delay unit to cause the level to fluctuate between two different levels. In Fig.1, textile material supplied to a feed box 1 is transported by a slow speed conveyer 2 towards a spiked elevator 3. A comb 4 removes and opens surplus material from the elevator and the remainder passes on to be transferred by a high speed spiked cylinder 5 to a hopper 6 feeding a chute 7. Cylinder 5 also produces a slight air-pressure on chute 7. Delivery wheels 13, 14 supply material from chute 7 to a conveyer 15 which supplies it to a following machine e.g. a carding engine. Rise in level of the fibres in the chute blocks the transmission of energy between an ultrasonic electro-acoustic transmitter and receiver on opposite sides of the chute at 18 so that a relay is operated to stop an electric motor driving elevator 3. Then, by virtue of a time delay associated with the relay, elevator 3 is re-started a predetermined time after the level falls. The time delay is adjusted to suit the rate of feed and obtain a desired difference between the levels at which the elevator is stopped and started. One side 12 of chute 7 is transparent to allow inspection and is adjustable in position to vary the volume with one side of hopper 6 pivotting at 10.
