Abstract

1318346 Automatic position control C N OWSTON 4 Sept 1970 [12 Sept 1969] 45043/69 Heading G3R [Also in Division G1] In non-destructive eddy current testing apparatus, an inductive probe 12 forming part of an oscillator tuned circuit scans an object 10 to be tested, the coupling between a probe and the object being maintained constant by detecting deviation of the oscillator frequency from a set value, via discriminator 22, to operate a positioning device, e.g. a moving coil device 16. Thus changes in object resistivity show as oscillator amplitude changes (detector 26), surface topography changes show as frequency changes, and cracks show as both amplitude and frequency changes.
