Abstract
1324751 Stretching films BEVIS INDUSTRIES Inc 28 April 1971 [17 Aug 1970] 11909/71 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] A tenter frame suitable for the transverse stretching of plastic films comprises a plurality of cross members 11 aligned laterally in spaced relation; a plurality of saddles 12, two for each member 11, each saddle 12 having two blocks 40, 41, Fig. 14, each block 40, 41 having a groove 42, 49; a plurality of pivot pins 50, 50A, one for each groove 42, 49, each pin 50, 50A having an enlarged head 51, 51A, slidably mounted in the respective groove; a plurality of shafts 22, one for each member 11, each shaft 22 having a right hand thread 23 and a left hand thread 24; bearings 17, 18, 19 rotatively mounting each shaft 22 to a member 11; means 54 slidably mounting two saddles 12 to each member 11; means connecting one saddle to a thread 23 and a second means connecting the second saddle to a thread 24, whereby rotation of the shaft 22 moves the two saddles 12 on a member 11 towards or away from each other; a plurality of rail sections 65, 165, Fig. 15, each section having a pin bore 69, 69A at opposite ends; and means pivotally connecting opposite ends of adjacent sections 65, 165 to a pivot pin 50, 50A through the bores 69, 69A with the sections 65, 165 pivotally and slidably mounted upon a block 40, 41. The sliding of one saddle 12 towards or away from the other saddle on the same shaft 22 is effected by a nut 54 which engages either a wall 35 or 36, Fig. 2, upon rotation of the shaft by a hand wheel 25. The sections 65, 165 are provided with tenter clip tracks for operation and return, respectively. At the entry end of the tenter frame, saddle blocks 40A, 41A, Figs. 1, 4 and 5, are mounted so as to slide as a unit on a cross member 11B when a shaft 22B is rotated by a hand wheel 25A. A saddle 90 is slidably mounted on a cross member 11A and has a yoke 105, 106, Fig. 8, pivotally and slidably connected thereto by a pin 103. An entry rail 111 has plates 114, 115 pivotally connected to pins 81, 76 slidably mounted in blocks 40A, 41A and has a hub 113 fastened to the yoke 105, 106. A carriage 123 pivotally connected to the rail 111 has a hub 130 pivotally connected for free rotation thereto by a stud 127. The hub 130 carries a sprocket 131 and a tenter clip jaw opening wheel 133. At the delivery end of the tenter frame, a plate 145, Fig. 10, is slidably mounted on cross members 141, 142 and carries a gear-box 150. A delivery rail 154 is supported on the plate 145 for free pivotal movement. A hub 157 on the drive shaft of the gear-box 150 carries a sprocket 160 and a tenter clip jaw opening wheel 162. Pivot pins 175, 177 connect the rail 154 with rail sections 165E, 65E, respectively. A similar arrangement with a gear-box 150A is provided at the opposite side of the machine. A splined shaft 190 connects the gears in boxes 150, 150A as a common drive connection and has a motor (not shown) connected to one end thereof to drive the sprockets 160, 160A and wheels 162, 162A.
