Abstract

1324943 Filaments simulating hair JAPAN EXLAN CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [18 April 1970] 10031/71 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Filaments simulating natural hair comprise an acrylic polymer, have a denier of 30-70, are non-circular in cross-section with the ratio of the minor axis b to the major axis a being 0À5-0À9:1, and contain (i) 10-40% by wt. of a liquid phosphate of formula wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are each an halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon group, the phosphate having a refractive index of 1À44-1À60 at 25‹ C. and (ii) 0À05-0À35% of TiO 2 . The major axis a is defined as the longest line in the cross-section which passes through the fibre centre of gravity, and b is the longest line in the cross-section which exists at right angles to a. The fibres, which are flame-proof, are made by conventional spinning, the additives either both being added to the spinning solution or, in the case of wetspinning, only the TiO 2 being added thereto and the gel filaments being treated in a bath containing the phosphate. In examples an acrylonitrile-methyl acrylate copolymer or an acrylonitrile-methyl acrylate-vinylidene chloride terpolymer is dissolved in NaCNS and spun into an NaCNS bath, the spinning solution containing tris (1-bromo-3-chloroisopropyl or 2,3-dibromopropyl) phosphate and TiO 2 . The spinneret is rectangular, giving elliptical filaments.
