1331210 Cabinets for industrial operations; ventilating INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 24 Aug 1972 [22 Sept 1971] 39375/72 Headings F4V and F4X In a work cabinet which may be used for manufacturing precision articles such as integrated circuits, a work surface 38 in the form of a horizontal perforated plate is disposed above the bottom surface 18 of an open-fronted work chamber 12 whereby a horizontal laminar flow of clean air can be directed through the chamber 12 above and below the work surface to blanket the article 32 on the work surface and prevent a flow of contaminated room air into the chamber. The back wall of the work chamber 12 is a filter 20. Intake air entering the cabinet through an opening 28 is supplied to a plenum 22 behind the chamber 12 by means of a motor driven fan (24, Fig. 1, not shown), the air then passing through the filter 20 and horizontally above and below the work surface which is supported by spacers 40. In an alternative embodiment (see Fig. 5) the position of the work surface within the chamber may be altered through a support arrangement comprising rods (44) each having a plurality of spaced holes (46) into which spring loaded pins may be inserted.
