Abstract
1331774 Motor vehicle lamps JOSEPH LUCAS (Industries) Ltd 19 May 1971 [20 June 1970] 30046/70 Heading F4R A vehicle lamp assembly comprises a reflector unit 11, a bulb holder (14 or 15, Fig. 2, not shown) detachably engaged with the reflector unit by, for example, a snap fit, and a lens unit 18 having a screw fastening means 24 secured thereto, the fastening means having a portion which extends through an aperture in the reflector unit and can be used both to secure the lens unit to the reflector unit and to secure the assembly in position on the vehicle body 28. The fastening means is secured to a spigot 23 on the lens unit by driving it into the spigot by ultrasonic techniques. The dimensions of the components are such that when the two units are brought together to compress a sealing gasket 22 therebetween the end of the spigot 23 is spaced by a small distance from the reflector unit 11. A washer or other fastening means is then placed on the screw means 24 to hold the units in position and the lamp assembly is applied to the vehicle body 28 with the interposition of a further sealing gasket 26, the screw means extending through an appropriate aperture in the body. A nut 27 is then tightened on the screw means to compress the gasket 26 and absorb the remaining play between the units. Ribs 25 on the reflector unit around the screw means 24 minimize the risk of damage to the lamp assembly due to over-tightening of the nut 27.
