Abstract
1331835 Cleaning loose bed filters SPETSIALNOE PROEKTNO-KONSTRUKTORSKOE I NALADOCHNOE BJURO 26 March 1971 8171/71 Heading B1D An apparatus for cleaning filters comprising a bed of loose filtering material 2 submerged under a layer 16 of water comprises a rectangular washing chamber 1 open to the atmosphere and having an open bottom for positioning adjacent to the filter material surface by sinking of side-walls 14 into the filter bed and two buoyancy chambers 10 which may be filled with water through openings 12 or which gas from compressor 11 to regulate the buoyancy of the apparatus. The washing chamber 1 contains a number of washing tubes 6 which deliver wash water from pump 3 into the filter bed and a number of drain pipes 8 connected to pump 6 to remove dirty wash water. The apparatus is moved periodically over the filter bed surface by increasing its buoyancy and pulling by cables 13 attached to the buoyancy chambers.
