Abstract

1332168 Compass systems SPERRY RAND CORP 4 Dec 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 57604/70 Heading G1N [Also in Division G4] An aircraft compass system comprises a fluxvalve compass 10, a heading gyroscope 11, a differential resolver 12 mounted on the gyroscope and having its rotor positioned by the gyroscope, summing device 15 and integrator 17, connected as shown in Fig. 1 so that the output signal # o at 14 includes only long term components of magnectic heading # m and only short term components of inertial heading # p . In Fig. 6, the output of flux-valve 10, which is of the type described in Specification 1291597 [Division G1], is corrected for deviations due to the magnetic field of the aircraft and tilt caused by aircraft acceleration and Coriolis forces as described in Specification 850692, and for errors due to field strength variations to produce two, corrected, D.C. voltages proportional to sin # m and cos # m . A solid state analogue computer 80 derives sin(# o -# m ) which is then digitized and integrated in a solid state circuit 81 including a slaving clock 52 producing a bit rate corresponding to a slow slaving rate of 2¢ degrees per minute. The output # s of 87 is converted at 85 into analogue sin and cos signals which are fed to the stator of the resolver 12. The resolver output is fed back to the computer 80 and also to a Scott T transformer 71 to provide a three wire format output signal.
