Abstract
1332761 Making clinching clips SIGNODE CORP 17 March 1972 [19 March 1971] 12598/72 Headings B3A and B3Q [Also in Division B8] Clinching clips C, Fig. 1, formed by bending blanks, Fig. 2, about fold lines 16 and provided with pairs of notches 12, 12 and 14, 14 in their respective side-edges 10, are adapted to be assembled into a stack S by being placed side-byside, Fig. 3, and connected together by a pair of filamentary keys 22 which are engaged respectively, preferably with an interference fit, in the longitudinally aligned rows of notches 12, 14. The filaments 22, which are generally of circular cross-section are preferably formed of lowdensity polyethylene and of such a diameter as to be completely housed in the notches 12, 14. The filaments are also sufficiently resilient to allow a stack S to be inserted into a curved shoot, or, to be coiled for use in a compact dispensing unit. Soft wire twine and solder may be used as filament material. A clinching tool 40 for forming a rigid joint 100, Fig. 10, comprises a J-shaped jaw 50 for supporting, as shown, two wires W and a driven clinching blade 52, a magazine 54 associated with the tool housing a stack S of clips. The clip C beneath the blade 52 is sheared off from the rest of the stack as the blade 52 descends toward the jaw 50, the sheared – off clip carrying the cut-off filament segments 22
