Abstract

1339079 Cutting apparatus GERBER GARMENT TECHNOLOGY Inc 15 June 1971 [9 Dec 1970] 27957/71 Heading B4B A sheet material cutting apparatus comprises a cutting device 15, 16 and a supporting bed of penetrable material relatively movable with respect to each other, the bed including a plurality of bristles 18 surrounded at least partly, by a filler 21 of a penetrable material. The bristles are secured to a plastics or rubber base-plate 19 mounted on a table 11. The filler material 21 which may fill the whole of the free spaces between the bristles as shown in Fig. 3, may be of a self-healing material, e.g. a superviscous liquid. The filler material may also be formed of granular material, e.g. sawdust, small balls of metal or plastic and granules of foamed or unfoamed plastics or a combination of granular material and a selfhealing material. The penetrable material may be covered by a sheet of of replaceable material, e.g. paper. 1339108 Bottle trimming device SHIKOKU KAKOOKI K K 20 March 1972 [27 March 1971] 12888/72 Heading B5A Apparatus for removing waste heads of moulded bottles comprises one or more bottle receiving means, one or more holding devices each holding a bottle so as to be rotatable therein and having a severing means, and means to rotate a bottle in a holding device relatively to the severing means the bottle receiving means, holding devices, and bottle rotation means being mounted on one or more rotary means, and each receiving means delivering a bottle to a holding device. As shown in Fig. 2, bottles 26 are transferred from conveyer 30 by star wheel 24 to bottle receiving devices 12, Fig. 6, mounted on turntable 10. Device 12 has a cylinder 13 slidable with key 15 on a cylinder 14 fixed to turntable 10 and is urged upwardly by spring 17, the height of cylinder 13 being determined by roller 20 and cam surfaces 21, 22. Grippers 37 comprise jaws 38 pivoted at 39 and opened and closed by elliptical cam 41 rotating in elliptical aperture 42 by means of cam 47, roller 46, arm 45 and shaft 43 which rotates in sleeve 44 fixed to turntable 10. Jaws 38 grasp the bottle 26 loosely below the level of its flash 35 to allow rotation thereof relative to blade 55 mounted on one of the jaws 38. A bottle rotating member 50, Fig. 4, has pins 51 to engage flash 35 and a guide rod 52 thereof passes into a cylinder 53a on a rotary shaft 53. Member 50 is urged downwardly by spring 58. Rotation is transmitted to member 50 by arm 59 having cut-out 59a for pin 60 on member 50. Position-correcting guide rollers 61 act on guide rail 62 to adjust the angular position of member 50 before and after rotation. A cylindrical slider 63 around shaft 53 is vertically movable by depressing cam 69 and roller 68 in bush 65 with key 64 and is urged upwardly by spring 66. A sprocket 71 on shaft 53 is rotated by chain 72. On transferring a bottle 26 from star wheel 24 to receiving means 12, jaws 38 are retained open by cam 47 and the receiving means 12 is raised by cam 22 to insert flash 35 between jaws 38, which are then closed. Rotating member 50 is then lowered by cam 69 to engage flash 35, thereby depressing the bottle 26 under compression of spring 58 so that blade 55 pierces the flash 35. Sprocket 71 comes into mesh with one end of chain 72, to drive rotating member 50, cutting off the flash 35. At the end of cam 69, member 50 is raised and the flash 35 removed by air nozzle (75, Fig. 8, not shown) into shoot (78). Jaws 38 are opened by cam 47 and receiving means 12 lowered so that open bottle 26 can be taken off by star wheel 25 and conveyer 31.
