1339158 Replacing yarn packages TEIJIN Ltd 25 Nov 1971 [2 Dec 1970 3 Dec 1970 12 Dec 1970] 54855/71 Heading D1F In a method of replacing yarn packages 100 of undrawn yarn to be drawn in a drawing machine 1, creel trucks 4 are lifted, e.g. by forklift truck 5 onto a standby platform 6 adjacent the ends of truck paths 2 which are mounted over the drawing machines; trucks containing empty package tubes are led from the paths 2 above the machines to the standby platform 6 and full creel trucks are led to the truck paths 2, the empty creel trucks are lowered by the means 5. The creel trucks are so shaped at their ends 403 that they interlock and maintain the regular spacing of the packages 100. Guide rails are provided on the truck paths 2 and the stand-by platform 6. The stand-by platform is provided with two paths 8, 9, one for full creel trucks and the other for empty creel trucks; turn-tables also being provided to change direction of the trucks from the paths 8, 9 to the paths 2 and vice versa. In operation, two trucks 4 are positioned in a carriage 3 which is picked up by a forklift truck 5. An operator stands on a platform on the truck 5 and when the top creel truck 4 is on the level of the platform 6, the operator pushes the truck 4 along the path 9. The lower creel truck is lifted to the level of the platform 6 and is then pushed along the path 9. The operator then pulls an empty creel truck from the path 8 onto the carriage 3, the lift is lowered and a second empty truck is pulled onto the carriage, and then the carriage 3 is lowered to the floor. This cycle is repeated until the path 9 is filled. When the packages above the drawing machines are exhausted, the creel trucks are pulled out of the truck paths 2 and arranged on the path 8 on the stand-by platform. The full creel trucks are then pushed into the said truck path 2 for the yarn to be pieced-up. The truck path 2 is preferably arranged with a groove accommodating a wire and a hook member attached to the wire; the wire being wound on a drum at a location adjacent the platform 6. The drum is rotated by means of a winch. In operation, the first full creel truck is pushed into the entrance of the truck path 2 so that the frame of the truck engages the hook member. The winch is disconnected so that the wire can unwind freely, and subsequent trucks are pushed along the truck path with the leading truck pulling the hook member and thereby the wire. To remove the trucks from the truck path 2, the winhc is operated, perhaps intermittently, to wind the wire which pulls the hook member and thus the trucks.
