Abstract

1346927 Hot gas engines PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 19 April 1971 [21 April 1970] 27231/71 Heading F1S A hot gas engine has a heater 9 which is formed by a plurality of pipes 16, 18 arranged in a ring around a space 11 for the combustion gases produced by the burner 13, the pipes comprising a set of first pipes 16 each of which extends parallel with the central axis of the ring and communicates at one end with the regenerator 8 and a set of second pipes 18 which alternate in the ring with the first pipes and each of which extends parallel with the axis of the ring for the greater part of its length and has a portion at one end which is bent inwardly of the ring and communicates with the expansion space 10. The first pipes and the second pipes communicate with one another at their other ends. A ring shaped element 20, or a plurality of separate segmental elements arranged to form a ring, is arranged concentrically with the ring of pipes between the inwardly bent portions of the second pipes and the adjacent portions of the first pipes, the element or elements having recesses in which these portions of the first pipes and the second – pipes are at least partially accommodated with clearance so that ducts for the passage of combustion gases are formed between the walls of the recesses and the portions of the first pipes and second pipes.
