1352110 Counting machine operations INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 19 June 1972 [30 June 1971] 28501/72 Heading G4D An apparatus for determining the number of copies to be made by a document copying machine consists of a member 39 manually settable against a scale 81 to set the desired number of copies; a member 41 movable incrementally by the machine and carrying indicia 40 to indicate the number of copies made; and a transfer member 70 movable with the member 41 and arranged to co-operate with the member 39 so as to produce an output to stop the machine when the desired number is equal to the copies made. In Fig. 6, a ratchet wheel 43 attached to the member 41 is driven by a pawl 54 coupled by linkage 21 to the machine; a pawl 60 (Figs. 3, 8, not shown) normally prevents return movement. A plate 71 coupled by a sleeve to the ratchet wheel 43 for movement therewith carries a pawl 70. A cam 83 on a shaft 35 turned by the knob 39 and retained in a set position by a locating device 86, 87 normally lifts the pawl 70 clear of a freely rotatable ratchet wheel 73. When only one further copy is required the pawl 70 drops into a recess 85 (Fig. 7, not shown) in the cam 83 so that the last movement of the machine causes the pawl 70 to drive the ratchet wheel 73. Movement of the wheel 73 actuates a linkage 22, 28 to stop the machine and also releases the retaining pawl (60) allowing a weight 61 to drive the counting member 41 back to its zero position.
