Abstract
1352226 Protecting dolphin piles G C WISWELL Jnr 19 April 1971 [9 April 1970] 26597/ 71 Heading E1H A process for applying a reinforced concrete casing to the splash zone of a steel supporting dolphin pile 10 in situ includes placing a reinforcing cage 22-25 around the pile, surrounding the cage with a two-piece cylindrical mould 26 of plastics impregnated fibre board, closing off the bottom of the mould 26 with a base plate 15, closing off the top of the mould 26 by raising the latter together with the base plate 15 until the mould 26 abuts a cap 12 on the pile 10, concrete then being pumped into the mould via an opening in the baseplate 15 until the mould is filled with concrete, any water in the mould being displaced via cuts 29 in the upper edge of the mould. The baseplate 15 and mould 26 are raised by cables 32 attached by loops 31 to a pair of pipes 30 or by a scissors jack (47) Fig. 8 (not shown) resting on a platform clamped to the pile. The cage 22-25 is secured to the pile by welding the members 22, 23 thereto, and the mould 26 is sealed by strips 27 and straps 34. After the concrete has been cured, the base plate 15 and ‘the straps 34 are removed, the mould being left in place to gradually deteriorate.
