1353568 Lathes OSWALD FORST MASCHINENFABRIK UND APPARATE-BAUANSTALT GmbH 22 Aug 1972 [11 April 1972] 39030/72 Headings B3T and B3B In a lathe means is provided to machine an annular groove in a rotating workpiece, the means comprising a pair of cross slides 6, 7, displaceable simultaneously towards the axis of rotation of the workpiece and carrying turning tools 10, 11, on to cutting regions 12, 13 respectively, the alignment of the cutting tools being so arranged that one tool machines one flank of the groove and the other tool machines the other flank of the groove in the workpiece. The cutting tools may be form tools which define the shape of the groove to be cut and are located on their respective slides at 180 degrees to each other on opposite sides of the workpiece axis. The cross slides are driven by a common screw spindle 9 having opposite hand threads of the same pitch. Steady rests 42, 43 with steady rollers 44 are provided to support the workpiece if necessary, during the machining operation.
