1353655 Ammonium carbamate formation I MAVROVIC 24 June 1971 [29 June 1970] 31655/73 Divided out of 1353653 Heading C2C The ammonium carbamate-forming step of a urea synthesis process comprises charging CO 2 and urea to a first mixture containing H 2 O, CO 2 and NH 3 , the amount of NH 3 in said first mixture being from 3À5 to 18 molar proportions per molar proportion of CO 2 therein, the amount of said CO 2 charged being such that the resulting second mixture contains from 2À1 to 3À6 molar proportions of NH 3 as ammonium carbamate and free NH 3 per molar proportion of CO 2 as ammonium carbamate and free CO 2 therein, and the amount of urea charged being such that said resulting second mixture contains from 0À1 to 10 parts by weight of urea per part by weight of total CO 2 as ammonium carbamate and free CO 2 , the pressure of said first mixture and said resulting second mixture being from 10-670 p.s.i.a., and removing the heat of reaction of carbamate formation from said second mixture.
