Abstract
1353804 Rear view mirror FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 11 Aug 1971 37651/71 Heading B7J [Also in Division E2] A rear view mirror assembly comprises a ball on a mirror stem 12 seated in an external semispherical socket 11 in a plastics mirror case 10, the ball being formed of two parts 13, 16 urged apart into frictional engagement with the socket by a spring 20. Ball part 13 is formed with a square section spigot 15 which engages a corresponding socket 17 in ball part 16 so that both parts move together when the mirror case is adjusted. Each ball part is also provided with a circular groove 18, 19 to accommodate the spring 20. The ball is retained in the socket 11 by a nylon locking cap 21 having a part spherical surface 14 which completes the socket, the cap 21 being kept in position against mirror case 10 by means of three bayonet projections 22 having respective heads 24 which engage behind the inner surface of the mirror case, through apertures 23, Fig. 1 (not shown), when the cap is rotated to its locking position. Locking formations 25 prevent rotation of the cap 21 in the opposite direction once it is assembled.
