1354394 Ferromagnetic chromium dioxide FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 18 Oct 1971 [20 Oct 1970] 48438/71 Heading C1A Water soluble chromium compounds present in ferromagnetic chromium dioxide produced by thermal decomposition of hexavalent chromium compounds at raised temperatures and pressures or by the oxidation of divalent or trivalent chromium at raised temperatures and pressures, with or without the addition of other elements or compounds, are removed by treating the chromium dioxide with a solution of a compound which acts as the source of an ion, which, in aqueous solution reacts with the watersoluble chromium compounds to produce a water-insoluble chromium compound. In the case of hexavalent chromium compounds, the source of the ion may be silver nitrate, zinc compounds such as zinc chloride, zinc nitrate and zinc acetate, barium compounds such as barium chloride and barium nitrate, or lead compounds such as lead nitrate and lead acetate. Trivalent chromium can be insolubilized with alkalis such as sodium or potassium hydroxides.
