Abstract
1355229 A gas operated toggle action gun W E PERRINE 23 Dec 1971 60013/71 Heading F3C A gas operated toggle action gun comprises a frame 10, a handle 11 on the frame 10, a hollow barrel 15 having a firing chamber 58, a bolt 29 which is movable in the frame 10 to and from the firing chamber 58 of the barrel 15, a toggle pivotally connected between the bolt and the frame, the toggle having an over-centre locked position, conduit means interconnecting the interior of the barrel with a zone adjacent the over-centre locked position so as to be able to transmit gas under pressure in the barrel 15 and release the toggle, and a compression spring 44, positioned in the handle, which connects to the frame 10 and the toggle so as to bias the toggle towards the over-centre locked position. The toggle comprises links 35 and 37, the former being connected by a pin 34 to the bolt 29 and the latter being connected by a pin 38 to the frame 10 and by a pin 48 to a push-rod 45, having the spring 44 mounted thereon and having its other end slidingly supported in a hole 46 formed in a baffle 47 of the handle 11. When the gun is fired gas passes from the barrel 15 to a pocket 54 in the link 37, via a port 51 in the barrel, a tube 50 and a chamber 52 having an orifice 53 therein. The gas causes the toggle to start to move towards the dotted line shown in Fig. 1 and the residual pressure in the chamber 58 completes the movement of the toggle to its lowest position 60, the spring 44 being compressed by the link 37 and the spring 61 being compressed by the bolt 29. The springs 44, 61 return the toggle and the bolt, the latter collecting a bullet 28 from a magazine 14 in readiness for the next firing of the gun. A bullet may be collected from the magazine prior to the first firing of the gun by releasing the toggle manually using a lever 70 and by moving the bolt manually using a rod 72. The barrel 15 is removable, being held in position by a clamp 20, Fig. 3, which is pivoted to the frame 10 at 21 and is secured to the frame by screws 25, Fig. 1.
