Abstract
1357790 Anhydrous hydrogen peroxide solutions BAYER AG 29 July 1971 [1 Aug 1970] 35731/71 Heading C1A The invention comprises anhydrous hydrogen peroxide solutions in which the solvent is a saturated heterocylic compound having 4-6 ring atoms, N being the hetero atom and having a CO group adjacent thereto. The carbonyl group may be in the ring or outside it. Suitable compounds are lactams of formula where R is a straight or branched C 1 -C 4 alkyl radical which may be substituted by halogen, hydroxyl or C 1 -C 3 alkoxy group and x is 2, 3 or 4; or a lactam of formula where R is as above and y is 3, 4 or 5. Many compounds are listed in the specification. The solution may contain 3 to 60% of H 2 O 2 based on the total weight of the solution. The anhydrous solution may be prepared from aqueous hydrogen peroxide solutions of any concentration by addition of the heterocyclic compound and distilling off the water preferably under reduced pressure. If desired, water may be partly removed before addition of the heterocyclic compound distillation under reduced pressure in the presence of an inert liquid, e.g. benzene, toluene, xylene, methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, amyl acetate, ethyl propionate, or methylene chloride, added in amounts of from 30 to 300% by weight, based on the weight of water present. Dehydration may also be effected by freezing or by use of a water-binding dehydrating agent.
