1359933 Nacreous pigments E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 24 March 1972 [26 March 1971] 13910/72 Heading C4A A nacreous pigment comprises a non-opaque mica flake substrate with a translucent layer of metal oxide deposited thereon, the metal oxide layer being predominantly hydrous or non- hydrous rutile TiO 2 , at least some of the particles of which are nucleated on hydrous or non- hydrous tin oxide, the concentration of tin oxide in the layer being greater in the region immediately adjacent the substrate. The tin oxide or hydrous tin oxide may constitute 0À1-20% by wt. of the metal oxide layer. The pigment is produced by acidifying a dispersion of mica flake in a tin salt solution containing Sn
