Abstract
1360544 Railway control FIAT SpA 3 Feb 1972 [9 Feb 1971] 5168/72 Heading B7N [Also in Divisions G4 and G1] The angular disposition of a railway vehicle abouts its longitudinal axis is controlled by a servosystem in accordance with the linear speed of the vehicle and its twist as measured by a rate gyroscope, when travelling on a curved portion of track. As shown (Fig. 5), the gyroscope is carried in a housing 18 attached to a bridge member 16 on an axle 14, supporting the body of a railway vehicle, and measures the angular velocity of the assembly about the horizontal axis C-C. The signal developed in the gyroscope 30 (Fig. 6) is limited at 32, integrated at 34, with the integral being returned to zero when the input signal is zero, and fed to a threshold device 36 to produce a postive or negative signal each time the threshold value is exceeded, indicating an angular displacement greater than the maximum track camber. This is extended at 38 for a preset short time, to avoid pulsing due to a bad track, and the extended signal is fed to an AND gate 39. The linear velocity of the vehicle is measured by a tachogenerator 52 whose output is modified as required at 52 bis and fed through gate 39, when the latter is opened by the integrated gyro signal, to energize a servomechanism 40 which rotates the vehicle body about its longitudinal axis at a predetermined rate. In a modification (Fig. 8) the extended integrated gyro signal from unit 38 is also fed through a timer 158 to a change over switch 154. If the duration of the gyro signal exceeds a predetermined time interval, switch 154 is operated to energize the servomechanism 40 with a signal proportional to the rate of change of the lateral acceleration of the vehicle, obtained by differentiating at 48 the lateral acceleration measured at 44 and stored at 150.
