Abstract
1365669 Clamps L F BLATT 30 May 1973 [28 Aug 1972 26 Jan 1973] 25702/73 Heading E2B [Also in Division B4] . A work-holding clamp comprises a plunger 27 of polygonal, preferably square cross section slidably mounted in a corresponding passage 25 in a body 11 the forward end of the plunger being adapted to receive clamping means such as clamp fingers (not shown) and the rear end of the plunger being pivotally connected to a handle 37 which carries a laterally projecting pin 41 the ends of the pin being received in two guide slots 39 formed in the side walls of a channel in the body 11, this channel and the guide slots being transversely directly with respect to the passage 25. Thus the handle may be pivoted between the full line and dash line positions shown to effect outward movement or retraction of the plunger. As shown (full line position) the handle is in an over-centre locking position in which the plunger is fully extended and end of the pin 41 is in contact with a stop 45 located in one of the guide slots 39. An adjustable screw 51 is provided which is arranged to contact a shoulder 53 on the plunger 27 when in its fully extended position to provided a predetermined pressure of the pin 41 against the stop 45 and to remove any play between the plunger 27 and its passage 25. A cylinder nose portion 13 projecting from the body may be threaded for mounting purposes or may, as shown, be enclosed by the rear end of a telescopic spirally wound spring steel protective cover 61 arranged to extend and retract with corresponding movements of the plunger 27. The body 11 may be attached to a support S by fasteners 19. A spring loaded ball detent 57 is provided to snap into a conical recess 59 in the plunger 27 when in its retracted position.
