Abstract
1368420 Vehicle suspensions G J VAN DER BURGT J’t HART and J SCHRIER 30 June 1971 [7 July 1970 (2)] 6617/74 Divided out of 1362381 Heading B7D [Also in Division F2] In an adjustable spring suspension between a support member 12 and a load member 13, a spring V 1 applies forces between one of the members, i.e. 13, and a location on one limb 16 of an angled member 15 and spaced from its junction B with the limb 17; the junction is guided (by a lever 14 on which it is pivoted) along a path fixed with respect to the one member 13 (since the lever 14 is pivoted on the member at A); and means 19, on (a movable nut of) which an adjusting link 18 is pivoted at D, is adjustable to control the location, with respect to the one member 13, of the pivot D along a path with a substantial component parallel to the limb 17 to which the link 18 is pivoted at C, the adjusting means 19 transmitting reaction (e.g. by way of a roller on pivot D running on a cam 21 on the one member 13) from the adjusting link 18 to the one member 13; the lever 14 transmits load between the junction B of the limbs 16, 17 and the other member 12. As shown, an axle 12 supports a vehicle chassis 13 through two springs V 1 , V 2 . In a second embodiment, also applied to a vehicle suspension, the end of a leaf spring (V 1 ) is attached to a limb of an angled member extending perpendicularly from one end of the other limb, which is a tubular tension bar surrounding a wheel half-axle swingable in a vertical plane about an axis on the chassis. An adjusting link pivoted on the other end of the bar prevents free rotation of the bar on the axle and the link extends to a ball joint at its other end supported by a rod from a ball joint on the chassis and by a rod axially movable by an adjusting device mounted on the chassis.
