Abstract

1368502 Testing tyres PICKER CORP 18 Aug 1971 [14 Sept 1970] 38725/71 Heading B7C [Also in Division H5] X-ray apparatus for the inspection of a tyre 28 includes a supporting frame 12 which supports, via shafts 16-19, four power-operated spindle assemblies 24-27 at the ends of arms 20-23, for supporting and spreading the beads of the tyre, an open-ended slot 14 in the support 12 permitting an X-ray tube 40, supported at the end of an arm 42 which also supports an image intensifier 50, to be introduced into the tyre, whereafter rotation about shaft 60 of the support 62 for the arm 42 causes the X-ray beam to scan the tyre from bead to bead while remaining aligned with the image intensifier (Fig. 3, not shown). Translational movement of the shaft 60, by the movement of carriages along rails 71 and 68, and adjustment of the spindle assemblies 24-27 (Figs. 5, 6 and 7, not shown), permit adjustment for different sizes of tyre.
