Abstract
1371139 Conveyers and hoppers for orientating articles L G DUBUIT 27 April 1972 [28 April 1971 18 Nov 1971] 19646/72 Headings B8A and B8S Empty bottles 11 deposited randomly in a hopper 10 are directed on to endless belt conveyers 16 which feed push-plate conveyers 25. Devices 45 at the head of the conveyers 25 ensure that the bottles are uni-directionally orientated before they drop into shoots 13 from which they are discharged by a conveyer 14. The belts 16 in the hopper 10 are each disposed between two partitions 20 which are caused to oscillate by cams on a common driven shaft 22 to orientate the baffles in one direction or the other along the belts 16. Each belt feeds a conveyer 25 having side walls 90 and supports 91 for guiding the bottles which, if their open ends are uppermost, have these ends slowed by engagement with brush-like members 50. These bottles then pass, open ends upwards, into the shoots 13. The bases of the other bottles are not slowed by the brushes and the bottles remain in the correct upright attitude. For controlling the bottles in the shoots 13, a stop and locating member 70 having compartments 71 corresponding to the shoots is horizontally movable under the control of cams 76 rotated with the conveyer 14. These cams also control a retractable stop 78 in each shoot. The conveyers 25 have a common drive but any one may be undriven in the event of jamming of its associated shoot, each shoot having a sensor 80 for controlling a drive tensioning pulley 36.
