1371221 Knitting machines TESALON ANSTALT 2 Nov 1971 [24 May 1971] 50948/71 Heading D1C A yarn feed member 15 which is rotatable about an axis passing through the knitting zone of a knitting machine has an end 18 from which emerge, at spaced points, two different (e.g. differently coloured) yarns and an elongated member 36 lying parallel to the axis is connected at one end to electro-magnetic actuator means controlled by a pattern unit and at the other end to the feed member to turn it when the member is actuated. In a parallel knitting machine with needle beds 1, 2 an assembly 3 moves back and forwards with respect to the needle beds and selectively entrains blocks 6 carrying yarn guides 5 which slide on polygonal guides 4. Each guide 5 comprises a rod member with a groove closed by a plate in which slides a rod (32) Fig. 2 (not shown) engaged through a slot by an actuating member. A member 15 is rotatable but not axially movable in the lower end of member (7) Fig. 2 (not shown) and has a helical groove 28 engaged by a roller (25) on rod (32) so that it is rotated as rod (32) moves up and down. Yarns 40, 41 e.g. of different colours pass in opposite directions through part 18 of member 15. Member (32) is actuated by member (34) through linkage from a member (39) controlled from the machine so as to turn part 18 and determine which yarn will come to the surface. A pair of electro-magnets control member 39. In a hand-operated machine, Fig. 9, guide 55 may be rotated by a cable 67 wrapped round it and controlled by an electro magnet.
