1377661 Oxofuryl esters of penicillins and cephalosporins YAMANOUCHI PHARMACEUTICAL CO Ltd 17 May 1972 [5 June 1971 15 June 1971 25 June 1971 10 Aug 1971 11 March 1972] 23263/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises oxofuryl ester derivatives of 6-(α-aminophenylacetamido)penicillanic acid, 7-(α-aminophenylacetamido)cephalosporanic acid or 7 – (α – aminophenylacetamido)desacetoxycephalosporanic acid represented by the general Formula V wherein A represents wherein R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom or a C 1 -C 6 alkyl group, or the R 1 and R 2 may form together a 1,3,-butadienylene group, R3 represents a hydrogen atom or an acetoxy group, and = means a single bond or a double bond and the acid addition salts thereof. Compounds which have been prepared include 6-(α-aminophenylacetamido)penicillinic acid 5-oxo-tetrahydro-2- furyl ester hydrochloride, 6-(α-aminophenylacetamido)penicillanic acid 1-oxo-isobenzofuran – 3 – yl ester hydrochloride, 6 – (α- aminophenylacetamido)penicillanic acid 5- oxo – 2,5 – dihydro – 2 – furyl ester hydrochloride, 6 – (α – aminophenylacetamido)- penicillanic acid 3,4-dimethyl-5-oxo-2,5-dihydro-2-furyl ester hydrochloride, 6-(α-aminophenylacetamido)penicillanic acid 3 – ethyl – 4- methyl – 5 – oxo – 2,5 – dihydro – 2 – furyl ester hydrochloride and 7-(α-aminophenylacetamido) desacetoxycephalosporanic acid 1-oxo-isobenzofuran-3-yl ester hydrochloride. 2 – Bromo – 3 – ethyl – 4 – methyl – 5 – oxo – 2,5- dihydrofuran of formula is prepared by reacting 3-ethyl-2-hydroxy-4- methyl – 5- oxo – 2,5 – dihydrofuran with phosphorus tribromide.
