Abstract

1381454 Thermal generators MORGAN CONSTRUCTION CO 16 Jan 1973 [24 Jan 1972 16 June 1972] 2197/73 Heading F4K Waste gases from a regenerative furnace 12 en route to a gas cleaning device 14 are cooled in two stages comprising respectively a reversible regenerator 22 and a recuperator 38 wherein the gases are cooled by combustion air for the furnace 12, the air being heated first in the recuperator and then in the regenerator, the regenerator having two heat transfer (e.g. checker-filled), chambers 24a, 24b and a reversing valve means 28 whereby the air and waste gases are directed alternately through each chamber. The cooled gases passing out of the recuperator 38 may be further cooled before being admitted to the cleaning device 14 by admixture with ambient air admitted under the control of a thermostatic valve 54 and driven by a fan 58. 62 is a portable heating device used on starting up to initiate warm-up of the cleaning device 14, this operation being subsequently completed by warm air tapped from the recuperator through a duct 64.
