Abstract
1383905 Hypodermic needle assembly AMALGAMATED DENTAL CO Ltd 18 Jan 1972 [15 Feb 1971] 4674/71 Heading A5R A hypodermic needle assembly comprises a double-ended cannula 2 having mounted along the length thereof holding means comprising a body member 1 engaging with the cannula 2 and dividing it into an injection part 3 and a cartridge-piercing part 4, the body member 1 having a cylindrical skirt 5 extending around the cartridge-piercing part 4, at least a part of the outer surface of the skirt 5 being provided with means for engaging an internal screw-thread in a syringe, the means being either (a) a screw thread, or (b) longitudinal ribs 9 in which the syringe thread cuts a thread. The skirt 5 is also provided on its inner surface with a cartridge-engaging projection. An elongated cap 7 protects the injection part 3 and engages in a push fit over part of the holding means, internal longitudinal members on the cap cooperating with corresponding external members on the holding means, so that the cap 7 may be used to rotate the needle assembly. Alternatively, the cap 7 may be integral with the body member 1 and can be snapped off at a weakened portion. The assembly is sterilised and enclosed in a sterile envelope 8. Cannula 2 may be held in the body member 1 by means of a metallic insert surrounding and gripping the cannula, or by means of a screw thread or by adhesive, and may be cranked so that the injection part 3 is off-centre with respect to the body member 3. Body member 1 is preferably of plastics material and cannula 2 is preferably steel.
