Abstract
1392377 Door mounting and operating mechanism; stays ROHR INDUSTRIES INC 14 Aug 1972 37900/72 Headings E2F and E2M In a door mounting and operating mechanism for a structure (e.g. a vehicle) a pair of complementary door portions 10a, 10b are actuated by a door supporting thrust member 13 which is adapted for guided axial movement on the structure betwen extended and retracted positions along a path extending transversely of a door opening such that the door portions are supported wholly by the thrust member 13 the latter being moved by actuating means to expose the door opening for exit and entry and to retract the door portions to close the opening. The thrust member 13 is mounted for axial sliding movement in slide bearings 17, 18 and actuated by a power-driven nut 19 driven by a worm and pinion mechanism 21 operated by a reversible electric motor. The driving connection between the nut 19 and the thrust member 13 may be released by a release mechanism (not shown) actuated by a lever 22 to free the thrust member 13 for axial sliding movement when it is necesary to actuate the door manually. Links 37, 38 are each connected at one end to the outer end of a slide rod 30 mounted co-axially in a cylinder 31 containing a spring (not shown) to resiliently limit the movement of the slide rod 30 upon retraction of the thrust member 13. The outer ends of the links 37, 38 are connected to the door portions 10a and 10b.
