Abstract
1395535 Fuel injection pumps MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AG 2 June 1972 [4 June 1971] 25987/72 Headings F1A and F1K In a fuel injection pump wherein the delivery is adjusted by a rack 4 meshing with a pinion 3, the rack 4 being displaceable by control linkage connected to a rod 5 to effect relative rotation between a pumping piston 2 and its cylinder, the fuel delivery can be reduced independently of the fuel control linkage. The independent reduction of the delivery is initiated by an engine speed or temperature responsive control circuit 32 operable to control a valve 31. When the valve is opened fluid from a source 21 is admitted to a cylinder space 18 thereby to displace a piston 17. The piston 17 acts through a rod 12 and a spring 14 to move a further rack 11 in a direction which drives the pinion 3 towards its zero delivery position. Movement of the pinion 3 is permitted, even if the control linkage is jammed, by compression of a spring 6 disposed between the rack 4 and the rod 5. The valve 31 may control the supply of fluid to further cylinders 28-30 for simultaneously reducing the delivery from additional pumping cylinders. A bolt 33 may be screwed into the rack 11 to prevent the latter from moving to a position corresponding to maximum delivery.
